I am so excited to announce that I have survived my first day of student teaching, and absolutely loved it! I spent about 4 full days working side by side with my cooperating teacher (who is phenomenal) set up the room and get things ready for the first day, week, and quarter. This year was a little different for my cooperating teacher because there are a ton of brand new things happening in the school, and I am her very first student teacher. There is a completely new classroom schedule, due to the state changing the stipulations around recess. My cooperating teacher is also, for the first time in this district, teaching both 5th grade and 6th grade math and science. This is due to the fluctuation in the number of fifth and sixth grade students, having a teacher move from 6th to 5th to create a 5th/6th teacher team. I love the teacher team that we are working with and all three of the teachers are so fun and lively!
The first day went very smoothly, but we didnt really have to plan very much curriculum. We basically just introduced ourselves, went over procedures, and played a name game to help to remember all 70 (!) students. It was so interesting to me to see the difference between the 5th grade and 6th grade students.
Our room looks awesome, and my teacher even let me decorate a bulletin board!
The classroom wasn't completely done when I took this picture, but this is a good idea!
Tons of mathematics vocabulary, which is awesome!
Check out the owl in the left corner! Ah!
The bulletin board that my cooperating teacher let me decorate. Too much fun being creative!
I hope to update you all often, especially about the new techniques, resources, and lesson plans that happen throughout the quarter!
Yours truly,
Miss Lockhart
