10/7/13

Hello All!

This semester has absolutely flown by. I am still at my first student teaching placement, with two weeks until completion at this location. These past 2 months have been such a whirlwind of adventure and chaos (in a good way) that I haven't been able to spare a free moment to post! I am hoping that I will have more time to post as the remaining few weeks require me to teach less and observe others more.

As I am writing this, know that I have a coffee, Dr. Pepper, and chocolate all by my side. That tells you everything about how Mondays are in 6th grade! I have had a really eye-opening experience into the teaching world, and let me tell you that it is exhausting and rewarding all at the same time. I have grown to absolutely love 6th grade (even if I was skeptical at first) and to really get to know my students. Thinking about leaving on the last day makes me so anxious and uneasy! I will have to come back and visit these students as they made my first semester so enjoyable, even through the hard times.

As I am leaving my students in about two weeks, I have created a little something to hopefully keep open communication between myself and them. I ordered some brightly colored (and very cute!) postcards that I have written "Miss Lockhart's Students" on the front. I plan on addressing and stamping every one of the postcards and passing them out to the class. My hope is that at some point in the future, whether it be days, months, years, etc., that the students will write to me to update me on their life. This could happen after big events, or just a typical day. I hope that the students take advantage of this postcard because I think it would be so fun to hear from them in the future! They have such amazing futures ahead of them and I would love to be kept in the loop, even just a bit.

I am still working on a gift for my cooperating teacher as she has really done so much for me this semester. I want to give her something very practical and useful, because I think she would love that even more. She also really loves coffee, so I am thinking a coffee basket!

I also am needing to write a huge thank you to my cooperating school, because without how inviting and amazing they were this would not have been the experience that it turned out to be! I could definitely see myself working in a school district like this one in the future.

I hope to blog more after the student teaching is completed, and to include lesson plans that I absolutely loved doing and creating.

Love,

Miss Lockhart

P.S. BIG NEWS!!! I have found out my second semester placement! I will be spending 16 weeks next semester in.....................KINDERGARTEN! Talk about a change of pace! :)
